Precautions During Viral Outbreak

News of a novel strain of the coronavirus and the disease it causes (COVID-19) has generated widespread concern as it makes its way around many parts of the globe. The virus has been identified in individuals throughout the United States as well, including reported cases here in Florida. As a result, a number of schools, places of work, venues, events, gatherings, air travels, and more have been postponed or canceled to decrease the risk of further outbreak. Individuals are being urged to take precautions that can help prevent contracting the virus, and for those who are at the greatest risk for contracting the virus and experiencing serious complications, quarantine/limited exposure is recommended. According to the CDC, older adults as well as those with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and lung disease are high risk. Factoring those greatest at risk, many nursing homes and assisted living facilities have been placed under quarantine.

We at Aqua Home Care have been following updates on the virus to stay informed and prepare as necessary. We encourage taking proactive measures that help limit the chances of illness, especially for those who are in a high risk category.

The CDC recommends taking the following precautions:

  • Wash your hands
  • Avoid close contact with those who are sick
  • Avoid, if possible, touching public surfaces such as elevator buttons, handrails, and doorknobs
  • Avoid handshaking
  • Refrain from touching your face, nose, eyes, mouth
  • Avoid large crowds
  • Avoid unnecessary travel
  • Have a plan in place should illness arise

Though not an inclusive list of all possible symptoms, the CDC lists the following as signs of COVID-19:

Warning Signs:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

Emergency Warning Signs

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion or inability to arouse
  • Bluish lips or face

Please continue to stay informed as new information is presented and implement preventative measures to avoid illness and the spread of illness. Should symptoms arise, please call your doctor. We at Aqua Home Care would like to thank those in the healthcare community who are treating patients and staying on the front lines of this outbreak. We would also like to thank the caregivers who provide quality daily living services to their clients. Those receiving in-home care have the benefit of being in their own home and away from crowds, and this is made possible by supportive caregivers. We wish everyone in our community and beyond safety and wellness as we learn more about COVID-19.
